Traditional wooden double-hung windows were originally manufactured and installed to allow for periodic servicing. However, as the knowledge and use of hand-tools by tradesmen has waned, so has the practice of maintaining these distinctive architectural features, leaving many to fall into disrepair. Raven Restoration fills this void.

 

We are passionate about historic preservation best practices and our goal is to limit our use of modern materials and to retain as much of the original as possible. When we do need replacement elements, we match the quality and wood type of the original construction and use only the finest architectural conservation methods and products sourced from accepted architectural and wooden boat restoration texts.

 

We choose to limit our restoration work to double-hung windows original to structures built prior to around 1910. These windows are synonymous with Victorian, Edwardian and Craftsman homes and can be restored to a much higher level of function and energy efficiency than other window types. We provide free restoration estimates within our service area; SF and North Bay communities along the 101 corridor. Many of the specific services Raven provides in the course of window restorations are best described as "preservation carpentry". Raven operates as a CA licensed contractor. Raven does not provide removal or application of paint or other finishes. For these services we suggest homeowners seek a licensed painting company to follow the completion of our work.

The doors featured in Raven's Catalog of Reproduction Victorian Doors are truly unique and, to our knowledge, cannot be found anywhere else. Our doors are recreations of the most attractive surviving original front doors in the San Francisco Bay Area and throughout California.

 

All of our catalog doors are custom made from solid heartwood and are assembled with interlocking mortise & tenon joints; never dowels, veneers, composites, or other lesser parts.
